Embers BBQ is a hidden gem of a classic BBQ joint in Southern Pines, NC, just outside of Pinehurst. The restaurant has all the southern staples, including ribs, chicken sandwiches, and the traditional Carolina pulled pork. It also has burgers, grilled cheese, and nachos for those who are not meat platter fans.
My table tried a variety of food. The pulled pork sandwich (with coleslaw added) was sweet and juicy, and the side of potato salad was refreshing.
One guest ordered the chopped brisket sandwich, fried okra, and mac and cheese, of which the sandwich was a clear winner with crispy bites of tender, delicious brisket.
The pulled pork platter, which came with cornbread and a side of sweet potato fries, needed a little more sauce, but that was easily solved by using the tableside container.
Though the restaurant is small, the owners use the space efficiently and the open kitchen produces mouth-watering smells while you wait for your order. In the summer, they have an outside patio just off the sidewalk where you can enjoy the weather and see all the shoppers passing by. Embers BBQ is a must-have when you’re in the area.
