Hoboken, NJ
A cozy, old-school Cuban restaurant, La Isla is a longtime Hoboken, NJ staple open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The small diner-style spot has 5 tables and 14 bar stools, plus outdoor seating in the summer months. They have a variety of Cuban classics on the menu and a Bring-Your-Own policy for alcohol.

My group went for brunch and had a range of breakfast options.
A table favorite was Omar’s Stuffed French Toast, which included a strawberry/guava cream cheese, almond cornflake breading, and guava sauce. This dish was featured on Throwdown with Bobby Flay and other popular food channels, and lived up to the hype!
Another dish on the table was a simple A Tu Manera, or fluffy egg omelet. You can customize the omelet with your choice of three fillings, or make it an egg white omelet for less calories. Though not as popular as the french toast, the omelet was flavorful and filling.
The last plate was Avena: delicious old-fashioned oats cooked in milk with optional fresh seasonal fruit. The avena was steaming and a perfect compliment was the Morir Soñando (a frappé of fresh orange juice, evaporated milk, and sugar). The oats and drink were perfect comfort foods and hit the spot!
With a wide selection of Cuban classic foods and beverages, La Isla is a must when visiting the Hoboken area. You can find it on Washington and 1st, just 2 blocks from the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway.
