Ben’s Bread Co.

Ben’s Bread Co. is a family-run bakery featuring an assortment of breads and pastry. They use locally sourced ingredients and donate a portion of their proceeds to the community and other charitable organizations.

They offer artisan sourdough loaves, breads, English muffins, cookies, and sandwiches. Some of their pastries use seasonal ingredients such as citrus and corn. They also have a rotating daily bread special where you can catch their intriguing Benne Miso Scallion loaf.

I ordered the sourdough table loaf, a pack of sourdough English muffins, and the citrus sweet brioche danish. The danish had satsuma marmalade, Cara Cara oranges, grapefruit, pomegranate and almond streusel. The combination of citrus was tangy, fresh, and complimented the cream cheese nicely. The brioche danish base was soft and buttery.

My favorite item was the sourdough English muffins. They were great toasted or made into a breakfast sandwich. I enjoyed how the exterior was buttery and overall they had a great flavor where extra butter or condiments weren’t needed.

This popular neighborhood bakery has a nice variety of sweet and savory options, you’re sure to find something to peak your interest! My favorite find was the black pepper focaccia bread. The combination of olive oil and pepper with the fluffy focaccia was heavenly.

I also tried the citrus bar and though it contained kumquat, buddha’s hand, and likely orange, it mostly tasted like a lemon bar. Still delicious.

The corn pound cake also had a zingy citrus glaze that was a good addition! This one froze well so I could enjoy it later. The corn cake had a nice spice and was a perfect afternoon snack.

It was more than worth waiting in line at Ben’s, and I loved that they have a focus on bread but offer a small but wider selection of other items.  My favorite had to be the rhubarb gooey streusel cake.  It was tart, crumbly, and soft, with a lot of flavor.  I also had the corn pound cake, which I thought had a good texture and taste, and I loved the sharp glaze.

Leaning more into their standard specialties, I tried a sourdough English muffin.  At home I toasted it and topped it with butter and jam.  Even without the spreads, it’s got a slightly buttery flavor, and is deliciously sour.  It’s perfect for breakfast or a snack!
