Layers Green Lake

03/20/2024 by TheDishDiary

Seattle, WA

Located across the street from beautiful Green Lake, Layers Green Lake serves up massively tasty sandwiches that match their size. With offerings of pork belly, salame, tuna, and broccoli, they add in pickled veg, herbs, and jellies to up the flavor profile and make each bite perfection. They also have amazing smashed and fried potatoes, kombucha, and in-house baked pastries.

Layers Green Lake has a small indoor dining area with some outside seating. Take away is also a great option for a picnic in the park.

I ordered the Peace, Love, & Salame sandwich with a side of spuds. I was surprised at how large the sandwich was and had concerns that I wouldn’t be able to get a full bite in, but I was successful. The salty salame paired wonderfully with the arugula and pickled radish, carrots, and cucumbers. The acidity was exactly what the sandwich needed and made it very addicting. My arugula adverse partner didn’t even mind it since the rest of the fillings were so good.

We also tried the spuds which were fried well and still crunchy after a ride home. They were great on their own, but I really enjoyed the Green Goddess sauce. It was perfectly creamy and herby.

I actually still daydream about that sandwich and can’t wait for another visit to try more of their menu.

I ordered the Rock Out With Your Brocc Out, one of their vegan options. The fried broccoli and pickled fennel combo was absolutely delicious! The broccoli was so savory and rich without being overly oily, and the fennel added a nice and bright zing. Layered with a creamy cannellini bean shmear, arugula, and basil vinaigrette, it was a hearty sandwich with outstanding flavor. I also appreciated that while it was a large, flavorful, rich sandwich, it still felt like a lighter meal.

Always a potato fan, I thought the spuds were very good – crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I paired them with ketchup at home for a nice sweet and salty bite.

I loved the food overall, and after seeing some of the other sandwiches I definitely want to go back to try more!

Walking into the packed Layers on Sunday around lunchtime I could tell this trendy café is a neighborhood favorite. The chefs are assembling the hefty, loaded sandwiches right behind the counter and you can choose to order and seat yourself or take your food to-go. The menu had so many enticing options, but as a lover of pork belly I couldn’t resist getting the Notorious P.I.G.

Described on the menu as slow, roasted pork belly, fresno pepper jelly, pickled onions, mixed lettuce, and aioli on toasted brioche, I was delightfully surprised to find the thick cut pork belly had crispy fried skin on top. Even after the drive home the sandwich was delightfully tangy, creamy, and rich and I couldn’t have enough.

I highly recommend stopping by Layers on your next stroll around Green Lake since it’s easily accessible right off the walking path! With the warm weather coming, it’s the perfect meal for a lakeside picnic.
