The Flour Box

Seattle, WA

The Flour Box is a bakery located on Rainier Avenue in the Hillman City area of Seattle. They serve handmade brioche donuts made from scratch, filled with cream, custard, or curd. Their flavors rotate every couple of weeks and vary from sweet to savory. Lastly, they also have a small amount of other baked goods, delightful seasonal beverages, and coffee.

The matcha cream and chocolate chunk cookie donuts are well worth the wait! These were the two flavors I tried, and the sweet and delectable cream fillings complemented the soft brioche donut perfectly. My favorite was the matcha, which had a slightly more mellow taste combined with the coconut mochi topping.

I also tried the Blueberry Yuzu Spritzer, a tangy and refreshing juice available just for the summer. Looking forward to seeing what flavor combinations The Flour Box comes up with next!

I tried all four of the available flavors for the week – fig leaf custard, matcha cream, sweet corn, chocolate chunk cookie, AND one of their brownies.

The stand out flavor of donut for me was the sweet corn! It had a soft punch of corn flavor, mellowed and nicely blended with the sweet, creamy custard. I thought all of them were good, and the donut itself was soft, chewy, and coated in just the right amount of sugar.

I really enjoyed the brownie as well, it was more of a cake-style but still thick and fudgy, which I loved. Will definitely be keeping an eye on their rotating flavors!

The real genius of Flour Box is their rotating flavors – if you try it and like it, you’ll be tempted to go back every couple of weeks to taste the new line-up! Not only that, you’ll be tempted to try them all since they’ll be rotated out. I was a happy victim of this scheme and tried all 4 flavors as well.

Corn was my favorite for the fresh and summery creamed corn filling. It reminded me of the sweet corn flavor Korean desserts like to feature!

The matcha was totally on point with a delicious earthy cream. The standout for me was the pillowy, sugary donut that surrounded all the flavors – you’ll want to keep coming back no matter what flavors they add.

I also tried one of their summer special drinks – Blueberry Lavender Milk. It was reminiscent of cereal milk with a hint of lavender – refreshing and delicious.

Overall I liked the vibes of this café and its offerings – if you have 3-4 hours to kill or want to have a nice long chat with friends take on the line and give it a try!

I tried all four of the flavor offerings and my favorite was also the matcha donut with the coconut mochi. The cream had the right amount of sweetness, lovely consistency, and the Sugimoto matcha was earthy perfection.

The brioche donut itself is a treat; the soft, squishable yeasty texture pairs wonderfully with the crunchy granulated sugar. I enjoyed all of the filling flavors, but the highlight for me was the donut.
